aequinoctium autumnale: the autumn equinox
chirographum: handwritten (an IOU)
more Hibernico: in the Irish fashion
literatus: well read
habeo non habeor: I hold but am not held
profanum vulgus: the profane rabble (the ungodly multitude)
luna decrescens: a waning moon
lacteus orbis (or orbis lacteus): the Milky Way
